My name is Brandon Brown and I am an associate professor in the Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of San Francisco. Usually I am exploring the biophysics of the electric sense.
But this blog is about something else entirely. When I am not poking sharks, I am a passionate advocate for The Center for Science and Innovation (CSI). I was lucky enough to be part of a great team of faculty, staff, architects and project managers in planning this project, when I was associate dean for sciences. Now I’ve been asked to “blog” about it — a novel endeavor for me — but it is obviously one of my favorite topics by far.
The interdisciplinary facilities of this estimated $50 million building will mean a quantum leap for our strong science programs and the science education of all undergraduate students. The project will also transform the heart of the USF campus, as it builds a wholly new plaza and space where the entire campus community can meet, socialize and study. This blog will provide you with updates on how the project moves forward.
A project of this magnitude needs support from all the friends of the University of San Francisco. This blog offers ways for you to ask questions, make comments, and show support. I hope you find it informative, and do feel free to interface with it.
Kind regards,
Brandon

Love the blog Brandon!! Well done.
Thanks Shawn, and overdue requited holiday love to you and Gleeson. No kidding, the library at USF completely turned my research career around (for the positive.)
I stumbled onto your blog and read a few post. I like your style of writing.
Brandon you’ve done an amazing job with the blog, I check it frequently to keep updated on the CSI and I was a International Studies Major so you are truly reaching a wide USF audience. One question though any word on the animation of CSI? Any guesstimated date when we should expect it?
Hi Max,
Many thanks. I’m glad you asked about the animation. We are working to make sure it has a great impact, so it has a roll-out type of format. Right now, the trustees have just seen it, then a key group of our closest advisors and supporters will get copies, and with any luck, we’ll roll it out on the blog and youtube for all to see in about a month. I know that’s slower than I had anticipated! Part of the issue is that, instead of just showcasing the raw animation, we’re putting a soundtrack, an introduction, and closing “credits” on it. Cheers!
Loved the animation! I am sure it will get everyone excited about the project! Good luck!
Thanks very much, Paula. It’s funny, but I’ve been deeply embedded in this project for more than five years, but the animation taught me things about the project. You just learn so much more than you can on a 2D floorplan. On Youtube, the animation now has over 1250 unique views, so I think word is spreading nicely!
